Canson Bristol XL Smooth
A French brand paper with 450 years of paper making heritage. Bristol paper is robust with an ultra bright and smooth finish. This is an excellent paper for pencils, paints, pastels. Acceptable also for markers and watercolours.

Fabriano Mixed Media
Fabriano, Italy began making paper in the 1200's after learning paper making technology from Arab traders.
This paper is ideal for mixed wet and dry use, producing excellent results with acrylic paint, pens, pencils, pastels and crayons. The absorbant nature of this paper makes it less suitable for markers.

Winsor and Newton Marker
Founded in 1832 Winsor and Newton is a relative newcomer to the world of papermaking. This paper is designed specifically for markers. Ultra lightweight and semi-transparent while also bleed resistant this paper gives exceptional results with markers, without draining the ink.

Canson Watercolour
Legend has it that Jean Montgolfier learned paper making when he was taken prisoner by Turkish forces at Damascus during the Crusades. He escaped to France bringing this knowledge with him to his home town of Vidalon. This paper is formulated specifically for watercolour painting.

Faber Castell Classic are a great choice in the budget category. Available everywhere and in packs and tins of all sixes, these are durable blendable pencils in a huge range of colours. Pencils in the budget category are not guaranteed to be lightfast so will likely fade over time.

The Ohuhu Maui Series of Markers are an excellent budget choice. These water based colouring markers are available in a huge range of colours and sets. In addition they are dual tipped, with one end giving a fine point and the other offering a brush tip.

Arrtx Pencils
Arrtx are an excellent choice of colouring pencil. Available in sets of 72 and 126 and much less expensive than equally good competitors. They have excellent light fastness, meaning they will resist fading over time.

Liquitex Basics Paints
Liquitex Basics Acrylic Paints are an excellent mid range paint choice. Available in sets from 6 to 72 colour and can be combined with the full range of Liquitex mediums, thinners and thickeners. Liquitex basics have the same pigments as professional grade paints but slightly less concentrated.

Arrtx Alcohol Markers
Arrtx Alcohol Markers come in a huge range of colours with dedicated sets for pastels and skin tones. Similar to the more expensive Copics and Ohuhu brands they are dual tip, alcohol based and can be refilled with Shihan Touch refills.

Winsor and Newton Cotman Watercolour Paint
The Cotman Set from Winsor and Newton is an excellent midrange watercolour option. Available in sets of dry watercolour blocks or tubes. Dry pans come in set of 12 to 45 colours. Tubes come in sets of 6 to 20 colours.

The Polychromos pencil from Faber Castell is the ultimate in colour pencils. This is reflected in the price but is a favourite of professional artists. Available in sets and as individual pencils.

Liquitex Heavy Acrylic
Available in sets or in single tubes these heavy body acrylic paints have highly concentrated pigment for rich, vibrant and professional results. These can be paired with acrylic mediums such as thinner and thickener to modify texture.

Copic or Ohuhu Markers
Copic Markers are regarded as the world's best alcohol based marker. A close second is the Ohuhu Marker. Both brands are refillable, with replaceable nibs. Both brands have a range of hundreds of colours, available in sets and as individual markers.

Winsor and Newtown Professional Watercolours are available in sets of dry pans, tubes and as individual dry blocks and tubes. These along with Daniel Smith Watercolours and Schmincke Watercolours are regarded as the world's finest watercolour paints.

Brushes
Brushes are grouped into three types. Natural Hair bushes, such as sable, squirrel, goat and camel which are soft and hold water well. These are used only for watercolour paint. As they can be damaged by the chemicals in oil and acrylic paint. Hog Hair brushes are tough and resilient, suitable for acrylic and oil paint. Synthetic hair brushes are ideal multipurpose brushes.

Mediums are gels, fluids and pastes that can be mixed to acrylic paint to thin paint to a fluid, or to thickend paint and add body and texture.
